City: More sustainable and smarter

Growing urban populations and climate change means that we must devise smart city models that respect the environment. We have to think about the cities of the future now and planning this must involve a targeted approach. “Sustainable cities” must meet environmental and social requirements. Governmental and European policies are now putting forward several ways of addressing these issues. Bouygues Construction is already committed to using a number of these methods. This involves designing cities per district for example or by preserving urban biodiversity. As a result, eco-neighbourhoods and eco-cities are part of the new urban landscape.

The Smart City concept revolves around the main principles in respecting the environments and how city actors work together in a network. The Smart Grid is an example of a tool used in a Smart City. This term signifies a smart electrical grid, using the latest IT technology to optimise electrical production, distribution and consumption.
Bouygues Construction is already working on providing new electrical mobility services and on optimising vehicle charging.
